The Roy Family’s Gondola Ride to Nesaksla

In season four, the Waystar Royco team leaves the boardroom behind and arrives in the mountain landscape of Romsdalen. In the series, members of the Waystar Royco team take a ride on Romsdalsgondolen on their way to meet Matsson. They may be focused on business negotiations, but the real-life journey offers plenty of time to take in the scenery.

The gondola travels from Åndalsnes to Nesaksla, carrying you from the fjord station to the mountain above the town. As you rise, the view opens across the Romsdalen valley, the surrounding peaks and the fjord. At the top, the landscape feels very different from the tense conversations taking place in the series.

Where the Roys Meet Matsson: Eggen Restaurant

At the top of Nesaksla, approximately 708 metres above sea level, you will find Eggen Restaurant. This is where the Roy family meets Matsson to discuss the future of their companies.

The restaurant offers a calmer way to experience the same setting. Sit down for lunch or dinner, enjoy locally sourced seasonal food and take in the mountain views in every direction. You can arrive by gondola and make the restaurant part of a longer visit to Nesaksla, rather than simply stopping by the filming location.

Follow the Roys Up Trollstigen

The Roys also travel through some of the mountain roads surrounding Romsdalen. One of the most recognisable is Trollstigen, a winding road that climbs through steep valleys, sharp bends and rugged mountain scenery.

You can drive the route yourself, or explore it on a Guided Bus Tour to Trollstigen from the Åndalsnes area. Sitting back on the bus lets you focus on the changing scenery as the road climbs through the mountains.

Trollstigen is a different kind of experience from Romsdalsgondolen. Instead of looking across the landscape from above, you move through it, following the road as it winds between the mountains.

From Romsdalen to the Atlantic Ocean Road

In Succession, the Roy family continues towards the coast and drives along the Atlantic Ocean Road on the way to their resort. The road stretches between islands and the open sea, creating a sharp contrast to the enclosed mountain valleys around Åndalsnes.

The route is known for its bridges, exposed coastline and changing views across the ocean. It is not a Romsdalen-owned product, but it fits naturally into a wider road trip through Western Norway.

If you are following the series’ filming locations, you can combine a stay in Romsdalen with a journey towards the coast. The landscapes change from steep mountain walls and green valleys to islands, sea air and wide coastal horizons.

Inside the GoJo Retreat at Juvet

The GoJo retreat was filmed at Juvet Landscape Hotel, a distinctive hotel set among the mountains and river landscapes beyond Åndalsnes. Its architecture is closely connected to the surrounding nature, giving the retreat scenes their secluded character.

The location offers a very different atmosphere from the activity and movement elsewhere in the series. Instead of travelling through the landscape, the experience is about staying within it, surrounded by mountains, trees and the river valley.

Juvet Landscape Hotel is an independent accommodation option rather than a Romsdalen-owned product. It can, however, be included as part of a wider journey through the locations featured in Succession.

Where Kendall and Roman Stand Above Gudbrandsjuvet

In the same wider area as Juvet Landscape Hotel, Gudbrandsjuvet appears in scenes where Kendall and Roman stand above the gorge. The river has carved its way through the rock over thousands of years, creating steep walls, swirling water and unusual natural formations.

The viewing area offers a close look at the forces that have shaped the valley. It is quieter than the mountain roads and viewpoints, but no less memorable, especially when the water is moving through the gorge below.

From the mountain views at Romsdalsgondolen to the roads leading towards Trollstigen, Juvet and Gudbrandsjuvet, Succession presents Norway through a series of contrasting landscapes. Start in Romsdalen, then follow the roads and valleys beyond Åndalsnes to experience more of the setting for yourself.
