Ready to step into the Marvel universe?
In Marvel Studios’ Black Widow, the action takes Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlett Johansson, to Norway. With dramatic fjords, winding mountain roads and towering peaks, the landscapes of Sunnmøre and Romsdalen set the scene as the former Avenger tries to stay one step ahead of the people hunting her down.
Some of these locations are real places you can visit today. From the fjord village of Sæbø to the spectacular mountain road of Trollstigen, you can explore the Norwegian scenery that made its way onto the big screen.
A Safe House in the Norwegian Mountains
After breaking the Sokovia Accords, Natasha is on the run and looking for somewhere to hide. She finds her way to Norway, where a remote trailer becomes her temporary safe house. The filmmakers chose the region for its vast landscapes and dramatic nature, which reflect Natasha’s uncertain position and the turning point she faces in her life.
The filming began in Sæbø, a small village in Sunnmøre surrounded by the mountains and waters of Hjørundfjorden. The production spent two days here before moving towards Trollstigen in Romsdalen.
In the film, Natasha travels by ferry across the fjord, offering a glimpse of the landscape that makes this part of Norway so distinctive. You can experience the same fjord scenery around Sæbø, where steep mountains rise straight from the water and small settlements sit along the shoreline.

Follow Black Widow to Trollstigen
Trollstigen is one of Norway’s most recognisable mountain roads, known for its eleven hairpin bends, steep mountainsides and the Stigfossen waterfall. It is also one of the locations featured during Natasha’s journey through Norway in Black Widow.
As Natasha drives through the mountain landscape, the road winds past the waterfall at Stigfossbrua. The sharp bends and towering rock faces create a dramatic setting for her journey, making the real landscape feel every bit as cinematic as the film.
You can experience this scenery yourself by travelling along Trollstigen when the mountain road is open. Stop at the viewpoints to look down over the hairpin bends and valley, or take in the surrounding peaks and waterfalls. It is a chance to see the landscape beyond the screen and understand why filmmakers are drawn to this part of Norway.
Pack your bags, follow Natasha’s trail through the Norwegian landscape and discover your own adventure in Romsdalen.
Discover Romsdalen Beyond the Film
Trollstigen is only one part of the landscape that makes Romsdalen such a memorable destination. The region is home to steep mountain walls, deep valleys and the Rauma River, with plenty of ways to experience the scenery at your own pace.
For a different perspective, travel through the valley on The Golden Train along the Rauma Railway. The route passes landmarks such as Kylling Bridge and Troll Wall, revealing the dramatic landscape that has inspired productions from Black Widow to Mission Impossible.
You can also combine the railway journey with a ride on Romsdalsgondolen to Nesaksla. From the mountain above Åndalsnes, look out across the valley, the fjord and the surrounding peaks.
Whether you come for the Marvel connection or simply want to experience Norway’s spectacular scenery, Romsdalen offers plenty to explore long after the credits have rolled.
