The Start of the Experience
Are you planning a trip to Romsdalen? Then a visit to Rampestreken is a must. The trip starts in the center, where you can follow the Sherpa stairs to the top, or take the shortcut with the gondola. If you choose to walk up, you can always take the gondola back down.
This is a somewhat steep hike, but it is still a nice family hike, which both young and old can enjoy. It is still recommended that children are used to walking in the mountains before embarking on this climb, especially if you have younger children with you. If you want a slightly easier hike to the finish, the Romsdalsgondola takes you to the top of Nesaksla. From here it is a 15-20 minute walk down to the lookout point.
The Path and the Goal
There is a good climb all the way on this trip, but Romsdalstrappa ensures that you have a prepared path on parts of the rough climb. The stairs are an experience in themselves, built by real Sherpas from Nepal in the traditional way with a railing that provides good support on the toughest parts. The path varies from being a few meters wide to narrow.
The steep climb can be tiring for anyone, and the higher you go, the steeper it gets. Most people will spend around two hours on this climb, but there is no need to rush. Take it easy, breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the hike. There are several benches and natural stops along the way, making it easy to take breaks when you feel like it. Due to the steep climb, the hike is rated as medium. Start your hike earlier in the morning if you want to avoid traffic and waiting to get out onto the bridge. In the darker months, when the sun sets earlier, an early start also gives you the opportunity to make the most of the hours of daylight.

A View Worth the Climb
Perched 537 metres above sea level, Rampestreken is one of Åndalsnes' most iconic viewpoints. The viewing platform extends out from the mountainside, offering spectacular views of the town, Romsdalsfjord, and the surrounding peaks.
The platform is a popular stop along the hike towards Nesaksla and has become one of the most photographed spots in the region. Its unique position gives visitors the feeling of standing high above the valley, surrounded by some of Norway's most dramatic mountain scenery.
Whether you're visiting for the views, the photography, or the sense of achievement after the climb, Rampestreken is an experience worth remembering.
